"Well Roy it hopefully it isn't to bad, they only called us out"
"Yeah but it is rush hour so who know by the time we get there."
As they arrived at the scene they only see one car pulled off to the side of
the road.
"Doesn't look to bad,” Johnny says as they grab the biophone and drug box.
As they near the car they hear a woman scream. They see she is lying back against
the seat and breathing heavily.
"Door's locked, Ma'am we are Paramedics with the fire Dept., can you open
your window for us?" Roy asks "Johnny, looks like we have a woman
in labour, see if the passenger door is unlocked."
Johnny runs around the car and opens the door "Ma’am I am John Gage a Paramedic
with the LA County Fire Dept. how far apart are the contractions"
Turning her head she looks over "Johnny? They are continuous......uumm...I
thought I could make it to the hospital...but it just got to be too hard"
"Addy? Oh man" Johnny looks over his shoulder at Roy " Get Rampart
on the line we have a 28 year old woman in labour. Her contractions are about
2 minutes apart. Pulse 70 respiration's 28 hand me the BP cuff."
"Why didn't you tell me you pregnant? I would have been around more to
help you? Roy BP is 130/78. Lets move you over this way then you can lay down
on the seat."
As Johnny is helping her move over Roy ran to the Squad to get the OB kit.
"Cap we have a woman in labour, It doesn't look like she is far from delivering
so we will need to do it here."
"OK Roy The ambulance is on the way, We will stay and keep the traffic
moving Holler if you need anything."
"Will do, Thanks Cap."
"So Addy, When were you going to tell me about this?" Johnny asks
"Breathe deep that's it...No don't push yet...Breathe."
"Johnny how does it look" Roy asks
"I see the head" Johnny answers "Addy with the next contraction
I want you to push as hard as you can for a count of 10."
It only took a couple of pushes before the baby was delivered.
"Addy congratulations you have a beautiful daughter. OK Roy lets get her
to Rampart!" Johnny smiled "This little princess deserves nothing
but the best."
As Roy helps move Addy to the gurney He introduces himself "Hi I am Roy
DeSoto, Johnny's partner."
"Hello Roy, It's nice to finally meet you John talks about you all the
time."
"He does? You know Johnny?"
Johnny looks over "Oh Sorry, Roy I would like you to meet Adeline Marie
Gage."
"Gage?" Roy asks as the ambulance pulls away.
"So Addy do you have a name for The Princess yet?"
"Johnny that's up to you" she says "You know you have to name
her its the custom."
"Let me think about it."
A half hour later Roy joined Johnny in treatment 3.
"Roy can you get the Doc and Dixie to come in for a minute?”
"Sure Johnny."
As they all gathered Johnny introduced Addy to them all.
"She is the widow of my cousin, I know you were all curious about her name."
They all grin sheepishly and say Hello to Addy.
"It is a tradition in our family that the first baby in each generation
is named by the oldest male in that generation, Since my cousin has passed it
is up to me to name this little one. So I hereby name her Steffie Jo Gage."
"That is a beautiful name Johnny thank you,” Addy says.
"I am glad you approve, She is named for 2 of my favourite people, my cousin
Stefan and my partners wife Jo." Johnny looks to Roy "I hope you don’t
mind"
"Johnny, of course I don't mind" Roy Smiles.
"Addy, Steffie welcome to the family!”
