The Blind Date

--by Eileen H. (aka Rabies)

"Over there, Jon, beside the red Mustang. I think we’ll just fit."

Jon Baker nodded in response to his partner’s directions and turned the wheel of his truck to maneuver into the parking space that Ponch indicated. As they got out of the vehicle and collected blankets from the back, along with a picnic basket, Jon asked "Where are we meeting Jennifer and Gwen?"

"Over by the stage, partner. They said they were going to come by early and find us good spots near the front. Trust me buddy, you won’t be sorry. I’ve met Gwen, and she is one lovely, foxy lady."

"Sure Ponch, just remember how much I hate blind dates, and how big you owe me for taking out Jennifer’s cousin." Jon was able to hold the serious expression on his face for only seconds before starting to grin. "Just what did I get myself talked into? You said that they wanted to go to a concert in the park...?"

Ponch flashed his familliar toothy grin in response."I can’t remember the details, I was thinking about other things when Jennifer came up with the idea. It was a family act...some musical group."

"That narrows it down" said Jon, in his most patient and reasonable tone. "Sly and the Family Stone? The Osmond Family? The Pointer Sisters? What? If it’s the Jackson Five, I’m out of there, girls or no girls, I’m warning you..."

As they moved through the parking lot, dodging around cars of all sizes and descriptions, they noticed, standing out amongst them, a large bus. A big school bus. Painted in colourful geometric patterns. And the sign, on the back door emergency exit proclaiming:

"CAREFUL, NERVOUS MOTHER DRIVING"

Ponch looked at Jon. Jon stared back at Ponch, disbelieving his eyes.

"Partner, Gwen had better be worth this..."
